Job Promo - James & Robert

We were delighted to award Judge Fire & Security with their Toccare Touch Screen Fire Control Panel as winners of our 1000th order promotion recently.

Judge Fire & Security was formed in 2007 near Galway, Ireland, focusing on providing quality fire safety engineering solutions across the west coast of Ireland.

We came to work with Judge when Michelle Agius, MD of Eurotech, met with one of Judge’s customers at a Meet The Buyer event. Their customer was so impressed with our products and service, they specified us on their hotel fire system installation with Judge Fire & Security. It wasn’t long before Judge was one of our firm partners.

1000th panel

We presented the 5-loop Toccare One panel to Dermot McDermott from Judge Fire & Security on-site at C&F Tooling near Galway. This project will provide a full fire detection and alarm system across their 6-acre site using Toccare fire control panels, Sygno-fi by Eurotech wireless detection and FireBeam Blue optical beam smoke detection.

Michelle Agius, MD of Eurotech says: “Micheal and Judge Fire & Security were our very first Irish customer back in 2012 and the C&F Tooling installation will be Micheal’s last project before he retires, so for him to win the 1000th Toccare panel for this installation is perfect. It has been a pleasure to work with Micheal over the last decade and we look forward to continuing to work with the company over the coming years.”

We are issuing this technical bulletin regarding the use of EURV-MRU 240V Mains Rated Relay Unit (and derivative) mains switching module. The EURV-MRU relay unit upgrades a standard output module to a unit capable of switching mains voltages and higher currents.

What may happen?

The wired, loop powered variant of the product only may be impacted by the following issue.

It may occur only if a specific and defined set of conditions is met:

Under normal operation, the panel actions the output module which initiates the EURV-MRU module (when connected) in order to switch AC mains supply (usually this follows an event/alarm condition from CIE, which is fully logged/recorded in the systems event log).

In the event of a short circuit on the loop wiring, the loop isolator either side of the fault will open as a result. The panel will put in place the proper reaction to the short circuit condition: may vary by control panel type but mostly powering from both ends of the loop. Devices either side of the affected loop isolators (each side of the short circuit) should continue to communicate with the panel.

The output module has a bi-stable signal relay, so it remains in its last active condition even if the module has lost power.

An issue with the EURV-MRU has identified a defect which may impair the reconnection capability of the loop isolators.

This means that a larger part of the loop may remain isolated between the short circuit and the resulting open isolators even when power is applied to both ends of the loop. The effects are greater if the short circuit occurs close to panel loop output (loop-out).

The panel will indicate (device missing[s]) fault for the affected devices, however the displaying of any alarm condition will always take priority on the display.

What is not impacted?

The wireless variants are not impacted at all (the EURV-MRU unit can easily be upgraded to a wireless variant by adding the end of line module and connecting to a wireless output module).

What should you do?

Should you find any of your systems at risk of the above situation, please consider one of the two possible alternative solutions below:
–    option A, with isolator modules spur
–    or option B, if you have already on site an external power supply (24V PSU).

Option A
We will provide you with a pre-cabled: inside it you will find 3 isolator modules that will spur the EURV-MRU form the main loop.
Such configuration ensures the EURV-MRU operation does not affect the loop in any conditions and ensures that the EURV-MRU operation is maintained regardless the position of the potential short.

Option B
You can add an external power supply (24V PSU) to decouple the mains relay from the loop, using the end-of-line module paired with EURV-MRU.

The EURV-MRU can be considered a type 2 component from the EN 54 perspective, therefore use of a non EN54-4 approved power supply is also acceptable.

For any sites that may be affected with this issue, we ask you to contact us immediately to arrange replacement of the EURV-MRU 240V Mains Rated Relay Unit.

James AherneOur Regional Sales Manager, James Aherne, is running the adidas Manchester Marathon this April in aid of our chosen charity Portsmouth Hospitals Trust, and the Irish Cancer Society.

Portsmouth Hospitals Charity raises funds to help make a positive difference for patients, their families and the staff who support their care. Donations enable facilities improvements, equipment purchases and also supports research and innovation with the aim of enhancing patient care and staff wellbeing.

PHC is very close to the hearts of many of us at Eurotech and has been chosen specifically in memory of Vince and Barbara Agius, the parents of Michelle, Vincent and Caron Agius, for the amazing care and support they recently showed to them all.

The Irish Cancer Society are a community determined to help anyone affected by cancer in Ireland.
They provide free information and care, and fund cancer research to find better treatments that will save more lives. They work to keep cancer on the Government’s agenda, to make sure the Irish healthcare system functions as well as possible to help cancer patients and their loved ones through their diagnosis.

The adidas Manchester Marathon will take place on Sunday 16th April 2023.

James says: “Training is going really well so far and I’m looking forward to running the race in April. Portsmouth Hospitals Charity is an amazing cause that we already raised an incredible amount for with our skydive last year, and the Irish Cancer Society is a cause that is close to my heart. I’d love to be able to help both charities further so any donations would be really appreciated.”

Fire risk assessment high rise buildingsEurotech are pleased to offer BAFE SP205-certified fire risk assessments and fire strategy planning for our customer’s sites to meet all of the requirements of the fire safety order and the 2022 enhancements published in May 2022.

Our fire risk assessor is one of a very small number of certified designers for the evacuation systems required post the Hackitt report for high-rise residential buildings (18m and above) under the BAFE SP207 scheme. These systems are now mandatory in England and Wales, coming into effect from December 1st 2022.

Unlike normal fire alarm systems, these have very particular design criteria to meet regulation requirements. Our service provides guidance, system design and the fire detection and alarm system to meet BS 8629 standards under BAFE certification.

To find out more about the support that Eurotech can offer, or for a confidential discussion please contact your Regional Support Manager.
